Details, Rules, and FAQ

The overall structure is as follows:

  • Each artist would get a time slot of 60 mins to stream.

  • The stream would be hosted using PeerTube at brioco.live, or possibly another PeerTube site. This is to avoid issues that can arise from how other sites do monetization.

  • If a streamer already has a streaming account on a different PeerTube instance or Owncast instance, they are invited to use that for this event instead of Brioco.live.

  • Each artist would have a separate URL to stream to during their time slot. While using OBS Studio on a computer to stream is recommended, streaming directly from a Smartphone is also easy.

  • Artists who have online portfolios or stores can work to have the stream embedded in a way to showcase their work alongside the stream. Basic pages could be setup without too much difficulty.

  • Artists are encouraged to promote any existing storefronts, commission pages, donation pages, membership platforms (Patreon, Ko-Fi, BuyMeACoffee, etc), social media links, etc during their stream.

  • The goal is to promote each other. Exposing viewers to new artists they may never have heard of as well as showing support for independent creatives in a positive and encouraging way is a key tenant of this event. Participants must be willing to support those goals of supporting the other participants and to work towards the promotion of all, not just oneself.

  • For this event do not simulcast or stream on a different platform at the same time. For creatives who already have audiences on other platforms, streaming to those platforms at the same time is not in line with the goal of promoting each other and discovering new creatives.

  • These structure, rules, guidelines, expectations, format, and any other related information or details are subject to change.

  • Participants who cannot agree to or adhere to the goals in a manner that results in a more positive experience for the most number of people involved will be unable to participate.

  • The general rules for any events run by or promoted by this site are listed here, but also include the following: Event Platform Terms Event Platform Rules These terms and rules also apply to this event and all participants and viewers.

  • This event is completely run by volunteers and uses open source, non-surveillance capitalism platforms. This event is not affiliated with any existing entities nor is it sponsored by any entities.

Who is this event targeted to? Who is invited to participate as an artist?

This is the first iteration of this idea so to keep things manageable, the following is a tentative list of who are invited to consider participating:

  • Traditional media artists. This can be flat media, textiles, ceramic, metal, or similar. Knitting or weaving or similar would also fall into this group

  • Digital media artists. This includes mixed digital and traditional media. Examples would be digital sketches, 3D modeling, digital painting, or similar.

  • Crafts or other "maker" type creations.

  • Written word creatives. Authors, editors, play-writes, screen plays, short story, or similar.

What is not allowed?

  • AI-generated artwork, AI-assisted tool-use, any systems that incorporate machine-learning platforms, or other generative systems.

  • Examples of things not allowed at all: Tools such as ChatGPT, DALL-E, Midjourney, Grok

  • Promotion of AI-generated artwork or any other content generated via "Generative AI" or "assisted AI/ML" systems, even if such content is not what is being shown during the livestream or event materials.

  • Creatives who leverage such tools will not be invited to participate, or removed from the participants roster if discovered after being accepted to participate.

  • Using works for which the artist does not hold the copyright or other explicit permission to use in their own works.

  • NSFW content is not allowed during the event. Creatives who produce NSFW or other age-restricted content must not provide any links to webpages or other content that hosts such content directly. We ask that it not be possible for a viewer to stumble upon NSFW or age-restricted content during the event.

  • Creatives under the age of 18.

Format Description

  • There will be a "Lobby" live stream which will be a place for viewers to congregate, ask questions about the parade, find out who is streaming, schedule lists, or other general questions.

  • In addition to the "Lobby" live stream, there will be a live stream from a participant creative/artist where viewers can go and watch and interact.

  • Each participant will stream for either 60, 90, or 120 minutes (tentative slot lengths) during their assigned time. Only one participant will be streaming at a time.

  • After each live stream, everyone will be directed to the next participant's stream.

  • Participants are encouraged to promote any storefronts, donation platforms, or other ways to financially support them.

  • No new account registrations are required for either viewers or participants. Moderation, however, will be actively enforcing the rules and removing unwanted users, comments, or content.

What is PeerTube and why are you using it for this event instead of the big, popular streaming sites?

PeerTube is an open source, free platform that is an alternative to Corporate-run sites like YouTube or Twitch. There are no ads, no built-in monetization, no tracking, no surveillance capitalism, and no one taking away the right to your own content. Because the larger sites have built-in monetization, this means that participants ability to receive financial support is tied to the participant's existing success on those platforms. Participants would have to already have a reasonably-sized audience before being able to leverage those sites' monetization. In addition, the monetization through those platforms is tied to continued use of those platforms.

By decoupling the financial support from the actual platform used to view and experience the artist's works, participants and viewers build and establish more direct relationships that center around the people involved, not streaming platform. The goal is to support each other while providing opportunities for people to discover new creatives and build relationships around the people and artwork.

I still don't quite understand why not use existing sites. It's easy for people to financially support on those sites through things like bits, subscriptions, and cheers.

The goal of this event is to build connections with people, not platforms. It's not about how many bits, subscriptions, or cheers a person received through the event. It's about how many meaningful connections are built with people with the goal of interacting with what the creative and what the creative produces, not engaging with the creative's "Streaming Channel/Account." Sending bits, or subscription gifts is not buying the creative's artwork. Engaging directly with the drawings, art, goods, or other creative works is the goal of this event, not increasing gifted subscription counts.

There are other events that leverage the large, existing streaming platforms to increase viewership on those platforms. If a creative feels that those events' goals are more in line with their own goals, that is wonderful and the creative is fully encouraged to participate in those other events! This event just has different goals and expectations which is also a wonderful thing.
